How often should I pressure wash my house?

Something that is not often contemplated by home owners is the frequency with which you should power wash the exterior of your home. There is a deceptively fine line between washing it too often, which can cause damage, and not washing it often enough, which can cause the siding to degrade and also encourages pests to grow in and feed on any wood on your house.

Just because you have had a rainy season, does not mean your house is clean. Rainfall brings with it dirt, and it all ends up on your house after a storm. Alternatively, if you have had a rather humid season, this can encourage the growth of mold and mildew. The general rule of thumb is to wash your home once a year, but if there has been an excess of rain or humidity, you may need to wash it a few times. Remember, just because your home looks clean does not mean that it is!
